Let go

Let go,
For in the air between
Where you stand
And I wait
Lies so much more
Than the seas between us can bear.
We could easily calculate
the months, the years, the days
Yet who will measure
The words, the breaths,
The very life of what was
In the space between us.

Let go,
For what political act
Can unclench this
heavy hand of a history
I can never understand
From these parched hopes?
What government decree
Or court order
Or bureaucratic shuffle
Could erase
This distance from our dreams?

Let go.
Let’s shuffle along
Neither in nor out
Neither black nor white
Just these out-of-focus times.

Hoping
Dreaming
Missing
Planning
Smiling
Aching

Don’t.
This must stop.

Don’t.

Go.
